Picton county

On the ferry approaching Glenora in Picton county

My friend and driver took the Loyalist Parkway to follow Lake Ontario to Picton. It was supposed to rain yesterday, but in fact the weather turned out to be gorgeous. And because we travelled close to the Lake, the "micro climate" was such that most trees still had their leaves. So we had a beautiful day with the loveliest scenery. Our first stop was the Lake on the Mountain.

Although we did not make a lots of stops, we passed  a lot of farmers' markets still open for business, and apple orchards with farm helpers still picking. We drove through vineyards and wineries, pumpkin fields, and lots of small little towns and villages all decked out for autumn and Halloween in particular. We stopped for lunch in one of those small towns past Picton called Wellington. It was actually warm enough to eat outside in a park on the water's edge.  This was the view we enjoyed while having our picnic.
Behind us, was a beautiful play area for kids. I thought of three of my grand kids who would love to visit this park with grandpa and I.
After lunch, we decided to go a little further. We travelled on backroads, not knowing where exactly we were (that is why they are called wander trips) just enjoying the scenery and eventually came out next to the airforce base at Trenton.  We had no idea that we had gone that far. We decided at that point to come home a different route than the one we took to get here, and I was home about 3:30 in the afternoon. It had clouded over by then, but the rain didn't arrive until just before supper. It was the kind of day that refreshes the soul.
