My email account was "redirected"

Broccoli starts with a smattering of compost around each, and 2 Marketmore cucumber plants in foreground. One hill has 2 plants and the farther hill has 3.
So just a word of explanation. I told you yesterday that I had not been receiving any email, and I thought things would work themselves out overnight. But this morning I discovered that things hadn't. I phoned ITS at Queens University and discovered that they did have a breach on May 29th, but things were back to normal. When I explained that my account was not back to normal, they checked it out. And yes, my account had been compromised. I am good to go now. I had to change my passwork (darn), but anything that was sent to me between yesterday morning at 1 AM and today at 9:30 AM is lost...gone forever. If you sent me an email yesterday, I won't get it. Nathalie, I got yours through Blogger.

I planted 4 romaine lettuce starts

I am embarrassed to show these "falling down" wine barrels. You remember I told you that these were my flower planters. This spring I emptied the dirt and tried to transport them to the edge of the garden to use for my strawberry runners. The bottoms had completely rotted away and the slats fell away as soon as the dirt was removed. The dirt was obviously what kept them together. So I reconstructed them in my garden to use as potato towers. I put three seed potatoes in the bottoms of each and covered with dirt. As the plants grow, instead of hilling them, I will add more and more dirt to the barrels. If it works, I will have potatoes in the barrels and all that dirt will help to add and amend the soil (Pinterest). If the barrels fall away, well.......they are garbage anyway.  The green bins will now hold my strawberry runners. (There are holes in the bottom). I only managed to fill 3 of the six, then ran out of time. The strawberry plants now are fruiting.

My four red bell pepper plants are in front of the strawberries still in the big garden. You can see the green berries. And that is why I have to wait until after they finish fruiting before I can transplant them. There is also some dill trying to come up there in the corner. They are volunteers from last season's seeds.

I realize you can't see the whole garden from these few photos. Maybe after I plant my seeds, you will get a better view. I planned to go out to plant those said seeds first thing, but I was tied up on the computer and on the phone with ITS resolving my problem. Then I had to make and bake some more doggie treats before 11 AM, which is when Ontario Hydro rates go up to their highest rate of the day. My Sweetie Pie grilled me some hotdogs on his new favourite toy. "Dee" gifted me with an electric "Foreman" grill from someone who was moving and didn't want to take it with him. My SP loves using it.  I may go out now to start planting and I will see how far I get. 'Til later.

  1. Wow, Susan, I can't believe someone was able to hack into your email account! How scary! Good thing you were able to get to the bottom of this. Make sure you monitor all your banking accounts, etc. because if someone was in your email account, they probably checked out your past emails too. I don't mean to scare you, but you should check everything out for the next few weeks.

I think it was a great idea to make potato towers from those barrels and I don't think they look bad at all! Let us know how this method turns out for you. I filled my potato towers with leaves because I saw someone's blog who said he had grown potatoes in straw so I thought "why not leaves?". We'll see. I probably won't get any potatoes at all!

I didn't know that you could even buy lettuce starts. I don't think I have ever seen any! I plant my lettuce from seed. I've used self-watering bins this year (that I made myself) and it's worked really really well with lettuce (and tomatoes). My strawberries are in self-watering bins too. I was wondering if I might be able to start lettuce indoors this summer when it's very hot and then transplant it in my self-watering bins in September when it cools off some. Now that I see you planted lettuce starters, I'm thinking that the answer is "yes"!
