Hello Girls' Week-end

Tomorrow at noon, 5 of us women are leaving for Cobden. Three of us will stay on for the whole week. The car I will be travelling in will take the longer scenic route and picnic on the way. The other car will stop for shopping along the way. The timeshare that we are renting won't be available until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. So this morning after the Costco pickup, I headed to WalMart where I figured I could pick up everything on my list . I needed some toiletries, groceries, dog food and wine. Where else but WalMart sells all of the above. Let me tell you about my best find in groceries.
Four red peppers and four green peppers for $1

Last week you will remember that we all got together to figure out what groceries we would each bring, so armed with that list I went shopping with my vacation money. I picked up some peppers (red, orange and yellow) to bring, but lo and behold, look what was on the clearance shelf. I bought these for my family with my grocery budget. There was absolutely nothing wrong with these peppers. They were as fresh and crisp as the ones I am taking to Cobden. To make sure they stayed fresh, I immediately washed, seeded and slivered all of them for the freezer.

I shouldn't need to buy any for several months
I picked up a few more groceries for us which I will have to deduct from the grocery budget. They were not "on sale" items, but rather "on my shopping list" items for which I might have paid less if I had shopped around. If I can figure out the final cost, I will post it before I go. But I have things that I need to do before I leave.
I baked two cookie sheets of dog biscuits for Satchel.

My son has left home for the day and won't be back until late. So my Sweetie and I will finish up the turkey soup I made at the beginning of the week, and which I have enjoyed for lunch every day. I bought some cheese and sliced meat for my picnic lunch tomorrow, so we will have a sandwich tonight with our soup. I need to shower, shave, colour my hair and finish packing.(too much information???) Anyways, I am excited about this week with the girls and looking forward to a great time. Have a good time yourselves and I will talk to you when I get back.

  1. You sound so excited about your trip, I hope you all have a wonderful time!

Wonderful deal on the peppers, 8 of them for $1 including the red ones? Wow. Red peppers usually cost more down here. Since they're green peppers that were left to rippen longer, I never understood why they charge so much more for them! I think the best price I have seen on them was at Save A Lot when I could get them for 50 cents EACH.

Your dog biscuits look delicious! Lucky dog :) I read that dogs love sweet potatoes. Have you ever tried that?

Be safe on the road! What will the men do while you're away?

  2. Yes, red peppers usually cost more here too. So this was a wonderful find for me. I have never done sweet potatoes for my dogs, although it is supposed to be good for them and they like them. I would rather give him these peanut butter biscuits and eat the sweet potatoes myself. *laugh* What will the boys do?? They will have to forage for their meals themselves. They won't starve.

  3. Sounds like a fun week ahead. That is an amazing deal on peppers. I love getting things when they are super cheap and cutting and freezing. I have onions and celery ready to make stuffing in the freezer and my bread cubes from the leftover bread so I am looking forward to making stuffing when I have some free time. I laugh because I don't have any clue when that would be but I love to make homemade stuffing and freezer pans of them to cook later. Even easier then stove top :) Looks like you were really productive with shopping and getting everything cleaned up and dog biscuits!!!
