I shopped at No-Frills because it had the most specials on things that I buy and I find it has the best prices over all. I needed to get dishwasher detergent and a certain brand of margarine for baking, onions and carrots and none of them were on sale anywhere. I price matched with Food Basics for 2 tins of Swift canned hams which were less than half price. At only $5.98 for both of them, I bought these for the pantry (emergency food stocks). Black diamond 24 cheese slices were on sale for $2 each but I had a coupon for $1.50 off when you buy two. So by buying two packages and using my coupon, I got the packages for only $1.25 each. Astro Balkan natural yoghurt was on for $2, but with a $1 off coupon, I bought 750 gms for only a buck. Kraft peanut butter was only $3 for a Kg jar, so I bought three of them. I bought discounted apples, mushrooms and bananas, Minute Maid frozen juice concentrate for 50 cents each and Triscuits for only $1.50 a box. The main reason for going to No-Frills was for the eye of round roasts at only $3 a pound. I picked up two roasts for the freezer (one 4 lb. and another at 2.5 lb.) I also bought some more Italian sausage at $3 a pound. These are great to have for the grill in the summer.
You got some great deals, especially since I know that food tends to be more expensive in Canada than in the US! Myself, I love grocery shopping. I think it's the hunting instinct in me, probably!
ReplyDeleteOur electric rates are the same no matter the time of day, but we can sign up for programs where they turn off the electricity to your house for a number of hours during the day (I think when people are off at work) and you get a discount on your bill. Since I'm home all day long, I haven't signed up for it. I suppose that with a little planning (like you do, it seems), I could get used to it, but I like the convenience of not having to think about it too much for now. I feel very spoiled!
